NYPD Guns Down 66 Year Old EDP
The NYPD is in the spot light for all the wrong reasons. Last night Black female, Deborah Danner was shot and killed by an NYPD Sergeant in her apartment in The Bronx, New York. Deborah Danner, age 66, is a known EDP (emotionally disturbed person) suffering from schizophrenia.
Cops were called by neighbors to Danner's apartment because of disturbing sounds emitnating from the apartment. Once on scene officers begin to talk Danner down who initially had a pair of scissors in her hand according to reports. The Sergeant was able to talk Danners down and get her to eventually drop the pair of scissors, but Danners then begin to approach the NYPD Sergeant and grab a bat. It was at this point, the NYPD Sergeant fired two rounds into Danners striking the torso area. These two shots ultimately were fatal.
There has been outrage over this situation with the common theme being, why did it get to this point?
Accordig to reports, Danner is known EDP and cops are called to her apartment at least once a month. So what made last night different from all the other times? Neighbors say that Danner's was an irrational person and they say that often they would hear strange and disturbing sounds coming from her apartment. So how did something that is routine turn fatal?
Many have spoken out and the question of excessive force is being thrown around at this point. NYPD states they are investigating the matter, and our mayor also took to Twitter to say the same. Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. also made a statement shaming the NYPD for event that took place and even using the hashtag black lives matter in a tweet addressing the fatal event.
So now another hashtag is created, and we wait to see what happens next. Will formal charges be issued to the NYPD Sergeant or will this be marked off as a clean shooting? It should be noted that a bar is considered a dangerous instrument according to NYS Penal Law, and the police union is already mounted up and crying it was a clean shooting. None of that changes the fact that it isn't a deadly weapon, and they've dealt with Danners on multiple occasions before.
As of now we sit and wait for everyone to do their investigations, and the NYPD Sergeant sits with modified duty.
