NBA Free Agency Frenzy
I am a little surprised as I wake up on Friday July 1st, a few players have already signed multi-million dollar deals. Courtesy of the new salary cap via the NBA lucrative TV deal, I mean it's only 3 billion dollars!!! As I open up my group chats and type into my Web browser my trusted sources for Sports news (ESPN, Rotoworld, Bleacher Report) I scroll through hoping the big names have already resigned or joined new franchises. I see at the top of my page Bradley Beal signs for 130 million dollars! Now before some of you Wizards fan send me to the firing squad, let me give you a little perspective while Beal is a decent NBA player I am not 100% sure I can justify this contract because he never plays long enough in a season for us to truly see what he's capable of.
I am impassioned about Sports especially the game of basketball but someone please take away the fucking checkbooks! I mean what are we doing? Throwing away money on potential? NBA teams have spent north of a billion dollars in Salaries in the first day of Free Agency. Are you kidding me?! Okay let me keep scrolling Evan Fournier, 85 million...... After getting swindled by the Thunder in what I believe is a lopsided trade you redeem yourselves by spending 85 million on Evan Fournier? Seriously! Come on! I mean I almost feel compelled to lace them up and see if I can score 15 points in 16 games so I can get paid like Timofey Mozgov, has the Lakers brass completely lost their marbles. You have a pretty intriguing young roster that could possibly play small ball and run the floor... (Where does Mozgov Fit?!) He's slow and he seemed to be a lot softer this year than he was a year ago in the Finals!
Luke Walton, I am disappointed. I am one of the people who was very excited about your hiring even though I am no Laker fan. But I am curious did you actually have any say in these signings cause I'm curios to know how these conversations go... (He scored 15, the entire playoffs let's give him 65 million) Sounds reasonable enough! I guess the interesting headlines have just begun. Next season is going to be expensive if not for anything else.
The Frenzy is far from over and all these prized free agents are just getting started! I use the term prized very loosely, I can guarantee that a year from now... A few teams are going to be sitting in their respective offices scratching there heads asking "What were we thinking?! After a few lackluster performances, the NBA GM unemployment line is going to get a hell of a lot longer!
A sincerely disgusted NBA fan signing off!
