Top 10 Kicks of 2018
As the year comes to a close the 12BY6 crew compiled a list of sneakers and narrowed down what we believe are the top 10 sneakers of 2018. Be warned tho as some sneaker heads might be reminded of an L taken trying to cop some of the heat on this list. Let's jump right into it.
1. Nike Air Max x Sean Wotherspoon 1/97
Hailing in at the top spot is the 12By6 consensus pick #1, The Nike Airmax 97 Wotherspoons. If you were lucky enough to grab a pair of these then you first hand understand why it was picked number one by staff. With a wide range of colors from sole to tongue, and removable patch for added customization, the Witherspoon’s speak to all sneaker heads alike. Selling out in less than an hour countrywide the classic sneaker silhouette with unique mix-matching color palettes is bold enough to be noticed but clean and casual enough to wear for almost all occasions. It’s only right that these are number 1 and can easily be called classics.
2. Adidas Yeezy 700 (OG Colorway)
The “Waverunner” was highly sought after on its first release back in the summer of 2017 and then again on this year's release in March. Nicknamed waverunner because of its bulky mid sole and sleek toe box, Kanye continues his trend of bold sole sneakers with a contrasting range of colors. The 12By6 crew all had this on their sneaker wishlist and how could you not. Very comfortable, very stylish and very limited. Kanye keeps the demand for his shoes at an all time high.
3. Nike Vapor Max
4. Yeezy 350 V2 Zebra
Drake said "Don't wear no 350's around me" but clearly Drake couldn't be considering shunning the Zebra's in his presence. Kanye's re-release of the 350 V2 Zebra's has proven to be better than his albums. This was crafted masterfully. You go 'Ye, we voted your shoes most comfortable.
5. Nike React Element 87
This year, Nike chose to showcase simplistic innovation via new silhouettes which led to a gargantuan leap over Adidas this past summer. The birth of the Nike React Element 87 is a great example of Nike's innovation. The RE87 is clearly some of the most sought-after sneakers in 2018. These are a must own for any self proclaimed sneaker head. That Sail colourway, though.
6. Adidas Yeezy 500
The debut of the Yeezy 500s (Mudrats) were among the top discussed shoes prior to release. Greeted with mixed reviews after release this shoe lasted on shleves a lot longer than 'Ye expected due to the Bulky exterior. Low and behold, this became a quiet giant amongst sneaker heads overly excelling in style and comfortability. We wanted a high rating for this shoe but the similar color palettes stunned the growth a bit.
7. Jordan 1 x Off White
Virgil Abloh teamed up with Nike and put his iconic Off-White twist on a classic. This year was the year of the Jordan 1. It felt as if every weekend a new pair dropped. None more dope than the off white 1s. If you were lucky to get your hands on these then you see the great alterations the Off White creator made. You see Virgil's patented deconstruction aesthetic all over these. Just a dope take on a classic sneaker.
8. Off White Nike Prestos (White Colorway)
Virgil has his hands all over this list. The Off White Presto were a dope pick up if you were lucky. Prestos had a resurgence the last few years and man did these deliver. Once again you see the off white creator took one of the more comfortable Nike silhouettes and added his creative touch. It's for this new take on a nike classic that the Presto finds it self on the list.
9. Pharrell NMDs Inspiration Pack
Pharell along with Kanye have been responsible for some of the most hyped Adidas in recent years and he didn't let up with the Hu Inspiration Pack. The Virginia native puts his twist on the NMD which features a dark green upper with orange laces and a matching out sole. It features African inspired multi color print on the collar. "Empower" and "Inspire" are embroidered in Chinese characters across the front of the sneakers. This sneaker was a great pick up for 2018.
10. Jordan 11 Concord
'Twas a few nights before Christmas, the Jordan Brand drops the holiday release we've all been waiting for. All jokes aside, whether its the Taxi 12s, Jordan Breds, Jordan knows how to steal the spotlight during the holiday season. This year the Concord 11s released and it stole the show. Nothing beats the Icy sole of the 11's, or that patent leather black mid. This might have been the year of the Jordan 1s but the Jordan 11's are always a game changer. The Concords wrap up our top 10.
