Open Letter to a Struggling Youth (Growing Pains)

Why aren't you at that place yet? What's taking you so long? You should of already accomplished that. You say a lot but I haven't really seen any progress.

Growing up in a enormous city like New York allows you to experience a childhood  like no other. Each block exemplifies the true definition of diversity. You meet great people, but you also encounter people that may not always be in your best interest. You grow up fast, seeing that the city isn't always as easy and fun to live in as the expectations most have for it.

You experience hardships: hardships at home, hardships in your relationships, discomfort around you, and odds against you. It circles you, it's impossible to fully get rid of. It has you grow up thinking this is a normal rite of passage that every child must overcome. "Whatever doesn't break you, makes you stronger," is what you’re told by family and friends. You ask yourself, “How can I live in such a huge city and this black cloud seems to follow me wherever I go?”

The questions from family and friends continue to pop up. Why aren't you at that place yet? What's taking you so long? You should of already accomplished that. You say a lot but I haven't really seen any progress.

You know what you want to do. You know what's in your heart. You want to be the best you can be. You ignore what's around you because you begin to realize those issues will forever occur, and it's up to the you to take control of your own life. You feel it's late, you think its too late. You fell behind and you now have doubts. You're hearing the conversations, again.

Why aren't you at that place yet? What's taking you so long? You should of already accomplished that. You're say a lot but I haven't really seen any progress.

Through these times, you grow. You know the world is against you but you keep pushing. You notice everyone's way is different but your way is the best way for you.  The growth continues as you finally begin to accept yourself. You live by "It's my journey and I will live it how I want to. I will take ownership of my path of life."
