Meet Arthell Isom a man who has created the First Black-Owned Anime Studio in Japan
I came across this video on one of my favorite YouTube channels The Black Experience Japan where Ranzo a Jamaican Canadian that uprooted his family and moved to Japan a few years ago, goes out to and finds other blacks that have decided to move from their home country to Japan to live. The show has since evolved from just Japan and now covers various Asian Countries and tells the story of the many Blacks that have made to jump to these foreign countries. Ranzo has dedicated his time to finding these people and allowing them to tell their stories and experiences thus far.
This episode n particular features, Arthell Isom, a black man who moved from Patterson, New Jersey over 14 years ago in pursuit of an art career in the anime industry in Japan. Fast forward to today and Arthell Isom has started his own anime studio, D’art Shtaijo, I encourage you to press play and listen to his inspirational story which details the journey it was to get him to this point…The first Black-owned Anime studio in japan and even beyond that it is the first foreign studio in Japan period. Arthell Isom and his partners are true trailblazers that show you with hard work and dedication anything is possible.
