If yesterday, Tuesday, wasn’t a day for rosé, I’m not sure what is! With February temperatures in the 60s, in NY, drinking pink was definitely the way to go.
I was originally going to try just a taste. And I did. Then I figured a glass wouldn’t hurt. Oops! Had a little more. Thankfully there is about a glass in there for me to enjoy tonight. Well, there goes, #nowineweekdays, lol. Leone De Castris Five Roses rosé, while technically not sweet, is absolutely not dry. We can call it semi-dry.
Don’t let the pink color fool you. This wine, from the nose to the glass, is all about luscious red fruit. Cherry is the predominant note up front, with raspberry, and strawberry filling out the midpalate quite nicely. The finish has very little acidity, so if that’s something you like, this would not be the wine for you. The finish has rather soft watermelon notes.
This wine is great with food. I had it with curry mixed vegetables. And I’m sure it will drink wonderfully on its own as I plan to finish the rather small glass, I left myself, with Project Runway All Stars tonight.
With an average price of only $13, it’s the perfect wine to stock up to welcome spring. I really hope the groundhog is right!
