While white wines and rosés tend to dominate wine buyers’ lists in the summer, there is undoubtedly one summer past-time that red wines fit so much better, fire-pits and smores.

Gehricke Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 from Sonoma County. This wine is rich with notes of ripe, red cherry, smoke and black pepper. It’s great with all things barbeque, or on its own. Also, a hit with cheesecake and dark chocolate. Retails for a little over $30, but drinks at a much higher price point.
Frank Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 Napa Valley. This wonderfully smooth wine has notes of red, black and brambly fruit, as well as, bittersweet chocolate, earth and toast. Its long, dry, and satisfying finish makes it a hit with hearty barbeque, while still being wonderful on its own. At $53, it would make a great gift for any red wine lover.
Rutherford Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 Napa Valley. This luscious, full-bodied, wine has notes of bright cherry, good earth and toast, with silky smooth tannins. The bright cherry notes keep the wine’s flavors lifted. With an average price of only $25, and some stores listing it under $20, this is an affordable luxury, that’s great to keep on hand.
