Give Me A Break: 76ers Edition

Give Me A Break: 76ers Edition

As I am sure many of you already know Ben Simmons, the Number 1 overall pick in the NBA draft this year, has a broken foot. This is eerily similar to a previous Top 3 selection of the 76ers, Joel Embiid, who has sat out the last two years with chronic foot issues.

Ben Simmons has what they call an Acute Jones fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. Can the 76ers catch a break? They don’t need this news at any point over the next few months let alone before the season is actually set to get underway.

All you 76er faithful’s all are asking and wondering the same thing I am. Does this put his season in jeopardy? How does this affect a bottom dwelling squad?  While many are speculating this will not hinder him from returning this season, we are left to wonder at what cost!

His agent is determined to have his client sit out the entire 2016-17 NBA season. While I understand his need to protect his cash cow at all costs, I believe him sitting out a full season will unnecessarily hurt his learning curve and ultimately this team. Ben Simmons needs to play and he needs to play this season, provided he can. The expectations for this young man are very high and rightfully so, he has the size of LeBron and the court vision of Magic.

Ben Simmons needs to return but only if he is not only cleared by team officials and doctors, but at 100%. While I just can’t see the Sixers returning to dominance with Simmons and Embiid returning, at least some nights they can be competitive.

Let’s be frank the 76ers were downright awful last season finishing with an embarrassing 10-72 record. I am going to make a bold prediction and say the 76ers take a step forward and win 25 games this year. Embiid and Simmons healthy, plus 15.

Think I’m wrong? let me know!
