J. Rosa Vs Vegas - Week 1
The Football season is upon us and that means more gambling. Every week this season I will give you my picks of winners betting against the spread. I’ve loved the gambling aspect of sports since I was young and it can be scary if you don’t know what you are doing.
Here is an example of how betting against the spread works:
Carolina (-3) at Denver
Thursday September, 8th at 8:30pm
Looking at the line, the minus 3 stands out. This means that Carolina must win by more than 3 points. So this means if the game ends and the score is Carolina 21, Denver 20, and you bet on Carolina, even though Carolina won the game they did not cover the spread, they needed to win by at least 3 points, so you lose.
So here we go. These are my picks. I used Carolina as my example and they are actually my real first pick.
1. Carolina (-3) at Denver
The Panthers have something to prove after being embarrassed in the Super Bowl last year. I think the Broncos are going to have a huge Super Bowl hangover. Cam Newton and the boys will come out strong and show the NFL that last year was no fluke.
2. Miami (+10.5) at Seattle
When I saw this number, it jumped out the page. Seattle is the superior team but you are giving me 10.5 points on week one. A funny thing about week one of the NFL the bad teams don’t know they are bad yet. Miami will play hard and they will lose the game but not by more than 10.5 points.
3. New England (+6) at Arizona
I know what you are saying, the Pats don’t have Brady, what are you thinking. This is our money you are playing with. Remember the last time New England didn’t have Tom Terrific they just went 10-6. Bill Belichick has had the whole training camp and preseason to prepare for the Arizona Cardinals. Give me the Pats plus 6.
These are my picks for Week 1, hold me to it.
