Tahchee's Throw Back Thursday Pick: Lil Wayne ft. Static Major - Lollipop (Music Video)
With all the talk of Lil Wayne retiring lately, I felt the need to share one of my favorite tracks this week. No, it's not a B-side track or a mixtape track.
It's probably one of his most commercially successful songs to date: "Lollipop". I had to be about, 19 years old, when this track came out, and oh those were wild times. Half way through my first semester in college, no responsibility, just class, and work study. This song came out during the prime of the Auto-Tune era that T-Pain ushered in, and when I first heard this song on Myspace it was instant love from me.
I hear that there were people that didn't like this song and said it was everything wrong with Rap at that time, and how Wayne was beginning to sing too much. I've even heard the crazy notion that this was the point of Rap music's decline. I doubt it. I also choose to believe anyone that said they didn't like this song was a top 5 pathological liar.
Wayne and Kanye West were literally on fire when this song dropped and even came together for the classic remix, but without this epic ass original, we'd have no remix so of course, I had to go with the original version.
Now no more talking. Press play and watch a video that embodies the flash and flair of rap from the time period of 2007-2012. Welcome to the year 2008.
